Emmanuel Methodist Church - Barnsley
a better way to live life !
Emmanuel Church is built into a hillside and is on 3 levels. Levels one (the lower) and two (the upper) are both at ground level and are served by a lift. Only the top level (room 4) has no lift access. The main entrance is on the upper level but level 1 also has its own separate access to the street
Seats 250 people in comfort; enlarges to 450 people in comfort by opening the removable wall to the upper hall.

Small meeting room on the lower floor suitable for meetings up to 10 people.
Small meeting room on upper floor suitable for meetings up to 12 people.
Larger meeting room on the upper floor suitable for meetings up to 20 people. As well as independent access, this room also has a door to the upper hall and can serve as a break out room.
Top Floor meeting room in the apex of the tower. Suitable for meetings up to 20 people. This room is the only room in Emmanuel not serviced by a lift; it is not wheelchair accessible and has about 20 steps to climb to reach it. The ceiling height reduces at one end due to the shape of the room - Room 4 is the "Emmanuel attic" but it is comfortably equipped to the same high standard. Contains a standard piano.
On the lower floor. Fully equippped computer training centre with networked PCs, large screen interactive whiteboard and air conditioning.
A small room at the back of the Sanctuary filled with toys. The room is extra sound-proofed but you can tune in to what is happening in the sanctuary by turning on a speaker. A triple glazed window looks out. So often people find it uncomfortable to bring their children to an event or service because they feel that the children may disrupt the event. At Emmanuel enter the crèche, turn on the speaker, let the children play to their heart's content. You won't even have to go out to visit the toilet as the door at the far end of the crèche leads to it's own separate facilities.
Off the sanctuary the vestry is the place where the Minister hangs his coat. At Emmanuel, the vestry is where worship equipment is stored and where the preacher may pray before the service. The Vestry is suitable for private meetings of up to 4 people.
Off the Sanctuary, the Green Room is simply a store room for worship equipment such as music stands, communion rail, hymn books, etc. The Green room is not suitable for community use; the only reason we mention it here is so that you know where it is when Emmanuel people refer to it.
The Church Office is off the foyer on the upper room. It is always locked with a security coded access. It houses the photocopier and some admin stuff.
YES ! we have a shower room. It's on the lower floor; normally this is kept locked but is available on request. It is mainly used by visiting student groups, but it means that Emmanuel has great facilities to act as a care centre in case of civil emergency.
The upper kitchen is equipped with: Commercial range with oven and 3 gas rings, water boiler, lincat grill, refrigerator, dish washer, warming cupboard, water boiler, toaster, microwave and a few electric kettles. There is plenty of cutlery and crockery, pots, pans, baking trays, chopping boards, sinks, utensils.
For safety's sake (children and people with learning difficulties) sharp knives are stored in a high cupboard above the microwave. If you have any problems accessing high cupboards have someone get them down for you.
The lower kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, kettles and a domestic electric cooker with oven, grill and 4 rings. There is cutlery and crockery but check that there are enough if you are booking the lower hall for your party or event.
