My Giving in the Church

One criticism of churches is: "they are always after your money"    We don't believe that this is true at Emmanuel so we cover the subject in the "members area" of this website.     The Church does not receive government or council money in the UK.   Emmanuel stays open due to the generous giving by its members in response to God's love.

It is not possible to buy favour from God by giving.   God's grace is freely offered for all who call Jesus Christ their Lord.       Christians see giving to the Church as part of their commitment to the Church in response to what God has done already.

This website is funded by the generous giving of Emmanuel members.

Ways to Give

Regular Standing Order - the best way to give

No more having to find cash on Sunday mornings; set up a regular standing order for your giving.

This is fast becoming the most popular way to give to the Church.     You may have noticed in a service when the collection comes round some people pass it on without putting any money in.       Chances are that these people have decided to make their weekly offering by standing order.

If you need any assistance in setting up a Standing order you can talk to your bank.   You'll need some details from Mark Fielding (Church Treasurer)

Gift Aid

It's legal, decent, honest AND BIBLICAL.
            . . . . . . . . . . and it makes a difference!

In many European countries their Government funds the Church from general taxes.    They realise that the Church plays an important role in the stability of the country and they should pay to support it.

In the UK this is not the case.    The only money the UK Church get is from people making direct donations.      However, it's not all bad news;  the UK Government allows churches to claim the tax back from donations made to the church - provided that the giver has paid tax in the first place.

If you are a UK tax payer then hand a gift aid form to the Church treasurer (Mark Fielding) and he'll do the rest.  You only need to do it once a year.

Gospel of Matthew 22:21
Then [Jesus] said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

If you are a UK tax payer and you do not allow the Church to reclaim the tax that you have paid then you are not following the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 22.      You will have given to Caesar more than is Caesar's and to God less than is God's.

Download a Gift Aid form and post it in the Emmanuel Office for the attention of Mark Fielding

 2nd Corinthians 9:6-8, Sowing Generously

6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
