Garden Maintenance Coordinator | An outdoor-type thats good at organising people?

The team: Maintenance Team


With outdoor space that includes grassed areas, flowers, plants and trees we take pride in ensuring our garden areas are maintained and look welcoming. Our dedicated maintenance team ensure gardens are maintained, small-scale improvements are carried out and we are welcoming to all the community.


They are a committed team - who work hard maintaining whats needed, and work together to ensure we keep on top of everything. It's a seasonal role, and gives limited time commitment for those who wish to give but doesn't have much time to do it in.


Is this team for you?

You’d be perfect for this team if you enjoy pruning, weeding and cutting the lawn. You’ll be good at manual work, and able to work under your own steam - this team is very independent - you will work together to agree who is doing what - and after that the tasks can be done under your own steam when it's convenient!


The external grounds consists of:

  1. The lawn around the church (within the fence, wall boundaries & behind the Church)

  2. The planted areas that surround the building.

  3. The asphalted and paved areas.

  4. The Fencing


Responsibilities


You’ll be responsible for the maintenance of the external grounds around Emmanuel Church. You are not expected to carry out all the works personally, but ensure the work is carried out.

  • coordinate the maintenance schedule, and schedule volunteers to carry out tasks as required

  • Every 6 months to organise a working party to carry out the full garden maintenance activity.

  • Liaise with “Twiggs” (who provide a free service to anyone organising a volunteer group) to get the garden maintained.

  • ensure all EMC electrical gardening equipment is PAT tested (extension lead, Flymo lawnmower and strimmer).

The garden maintenance activity includes:


Regularly during the growing season -

  • cut and strim the lawned areas, and to sweep the front asphalted and paved areas, as necessary. This takes approximately 1 – 1 ½ hours for 1 person periodically through the growing season.

  • Maintain the two small memory gardens in the rear lawn and tend the larger bed adjacent to the compost bins at the rear of the building.

  • Maintain the 2 planters at the upper entrance to the Church.

Every 3 months -

  • carry out a general inspection of the planted areas to identify and remove any self-seeded trees.

  • treat any weeds growing in the asphalted and paved areas, including the slate bed under the air conditioning units by the steps.

Every 6 months -

  • trim all shrubs and bushes.

  • examine the fencing and organise maintenance work as appropriate.


Skills you'll need

  • ability to weed, cut grass and carry out manual work

  • willingness to get stuck in

  • hands-on ability to do tasks given to you

  • pride in making the gardens look good


You will be required to hold a relevant level food hygiene certificate and DBS for these roles, and attend annual safeguarding training. Sign up now.
